‘Perfection [in Yoga] is not achieved by wearing the apparel [of a yogin], or by talking about it. Practice alone is the means to success. This is the truth, without doubt.’

(Hathayoga-Pradipika)

The Free Life Emersion was organised for the first time in November 2018 and can be best explained as a month-long gathering that aims to reconnect yoga with its traditional, philosophical, spiritual and experiential roots. Initiated by Petros Haffenrichter this experiment is an attempt to teach, practice, share and live yoga beyond the logic of lifestyle, marketing, consumerism and capital that characterises the yoga industry in the western world for the most part.

Drawing from ancient wisdom the idea is to assemble a group of inspiring, truth-seeking and kind human beings, teachers, scholars, musicians and yogInis, who mutually share and learn from each other and explore their sense of self, community and nature through yoga, sound, movement, arts and ritual. Not the acquisition of a certificate is in the center of this learning space but the radical endeavour to move into the world with compassion, respect and honesty, taking responsibility and cultivating togetherness. In a series of workshops and excursions every participant can share their skills or knowledge while experienced teachers guide the group to develop their own yoga practice in a holistic and authentic way.

“Our approach will be essentially human and will both involve and evolve with the spirit. We humans have an ancient connection with spirit, and we can find that spirit through rediscovering and learning ancient ways that were practiced before we had grown so far away from our root.  we need to connect with that root in order to understand our spiritual growth and the inspiring, positive and healing direction that it could take.”

- Petros Haffenrichter (Initiator)
